You can now visit Seoul in the metaverse

Seoul, the vibrant capital of South Korea, has taken a pioneering step into the digital realm by launching the world's first urban metaverse app. This immersive platform allows users to create personalized avatars and embark on a virtual journey through Seoul's iconic landmarks, including N Seoul Tower, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and the mayor's office.

The app also facilitates interactions with other metaverse residents, enabling them to engage in public games, contests, and even participate in civic activities such as paying taxes or filing civil complaints.

Seoul's metaverse revolution

Seoul's metaverse initiative is not merely a technological feat; it represents a strategic vision to enhance urban life. The city has committed $180 million to developing its metaverse infrastructure, with Phase 2 in 2024 focusing on connecting local businesses with foreign investors, while Phase 3, from 2026 onwards, will integrate augmented and virtual reality into the city's daily operations.

A glimpse into the future

Seoul's metaverse venture is a glimpse into the future of urban living, where virtual spaces seamlessly blend with physical ones. By 2030, nearly 700 cities are expected to have some form of metaverse infrastructure, offering a range of benefits, including eGovernment services, virtual tourism, and remote work enablement.

Moreover, metaverses can play a crucial role in achieving sustainability goals by reducing physical commutes and promoting energy conservation.
