Low-emission zones are reducing illness, scientists have found

In low-emission zones (LEZs), drivers of heavily polluting vehicles must pay a fee. But there’s been little assessment of their impact on public health, until now. Scientists found that LEZs are cutting rates of cardiovascular events… From hospital admissions to deaths from heart attacks and strokes. They may also help fight respiratory disease. In Germany, one study showed a 4.6% reduction in high blood pressure readings.
