This storm-proof buoy is attached to the ocean floor and floats beneath the water surface, harnessing the energy of passing waves. Creator AWS Ocean Energy trialled it for 6 months in Orkney, Scotland. It captured 10kW of power in moderate waves and 80kW in peak conditions. 20% higher than anticipated.
