11 tonnes of trash have just been removed from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch

The Ocean Cleanup used a device stretched between two vessels which skims debris from the surface of the water. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP) is a cluster of trash in the North Pacific Ocean. It’s roughly twice the size of Texas. The Ocean Cleanup removed 11,000kg of debris from it in a week, taking the trash back to base in British Columbia, where it will be sorted for recycling.
