大学可以成为探索可持续发展的“生活实验室”
近来,新冠疫情给社会和经济造成巨大破坏,给在充满稳定性和可预测性的环境中产生了“错误安全感”的人敲响了警钟。突如其来的疫情突显了一个事实:Ω21世纪,变化发生的速度可以是前所未有的,而且这种变化往往不可预测,并会带来彻底的转变。在这种新常态下,为了整个社会的福祉,构建可持续发展未来的全球使命,高等教育机构必须加快科研发展和创新的脚步。
Professor Wei Shyy is the President of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He is concurrently Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Prior to joining HKUST in 2010 as Provost, he was Clarence L. “Kelly” Johnson Collegiate Professor and the Department Chair of Aerospace Engineering of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. He had led multi-institutional research projects funded by the US government and industries on future space transport, bio-inspired flight and computational aeronautical science, and is a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He is the author and co-author of five books and editor of numerous peer-reviewed journals. His professional views have been quoted in various news media, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Associated Press, New Scientist and the U.S. News & World Report. Shyy had received multiple awards in recognition of his research contributions, including the 2003 AIAA Pendray Aerospace Literature Award.
