Tom Monballiu is the Port of Antwerp-Bruges' International Community Relations Manager, in charge of strengthening the port’s diplomatic and international institutional network.
Being a trained and educated junior IT professional Tom changed carreer in 1999 and started working as a television researcher and reporter. In 2003 he became editor in chief of a daily prime time talk show on national television, shortly after which he was offered the position of spokesperson of a parliamentary group in the Belgian Parliament. In 2007 before being appointed as spokesperson of the Minister of Defense he acted as Mr. Van Rompuy’s spokesperson in his capacity as Royal Scout. Between 2009 and 2012 he served at NATO Headquarters as public affairs officer to the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. At the same time he started a CSR-driven business initiative with organic food. In 2013 he was hired to strengthen the Antwerp Port Authority’s communication department. From 2015 onwards he acted as deputy port ambassador. In 2018 he assumed his current position. In 2023 he followed the Higher Studies for Defence and Security, organized by the Royal Higher Institute for Defence and Security.
