How fish slime could spawn a new kind of antibiotics
One day in the future, you may take a pill to treat an illness – and owe your recovery to the tiny microbes that flourish in the slippery layer of mucus that coats fishes.
Sandra Loesgen's laboratory is principally interested in target-based drug discovery with a focus on (1) identification of genetically encoded, biologically active natural products from microbial sources, (2) developing new screening techniques for small molecules and proteins that inhibit viral cell entry, and (3) using integrated approaches to elucidate the molecular basis of inhibitor interactions with target viral proteins by means of biophysical and structural studies.
