Pranidhi Sawhney is a trade and environmental economist focusing on international trade, regional integration, green value chains, climate mitigation and adaptation policies with a geographical focus in Africa and South-East Asia.
At her role in World Bank with the Trade and Climate team, she is working for the green trade agenda and is responsible for contributing to the flagship Climate Change Country Diagnostic Reports (CCDRs) in which she analyses the tradable activities impacted by climate change and pivoting the potential of countries by suggesting measures to reduce the carbon footprint within different sectors. She has contributed the analysis for Brazil, Indonesia, Mozambique, India, Egypt and Cambodia. She also compiled a toolkit with the World Bank team for trade surveys pertaining to Environmental Goods & Services (EGS) using Bangladesh and Vietnam as case studies for trade practitioners and policymakers. Currently, she is working on Action for Climate and Trade, a joint initiative by World Bank, WTO and World Economic Forum.
Her work primarily focuses on Aid for Trade programmes under the South-South Development concept in which she is responsible for identifying technical barriers to trade from an economic perspective, analyse value-chains, trace trade patterns and map the investment landscape of countries to push for green and inclusive supply chains.
She is also engaged as a Consultant with the International Trade Centre in Geneva, focusing on aligning the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive with the national frameworks for countries in Africa. She analysed the green policies, conventions from a legal perspective and integrates the environmental provisions in the national policies of governments to build institutional capacities. Also, with ADB she has been involved with research work focusing on climate, digitalisation and economic development for countries in Asia & Pacific.
Her work primarily focuses on Aid for Trade programmes under the South-South Development concept in which she has been responsible for identifying technical barriers to trade from an economic perspective, conduct in-depth research for drafting national export strategies and development policies, evaluate information using statistical tools, analyse value-chains of various sectors.
Previously, she has worked with the ILO New Delhi, UNFPA Geneva and BRICS International Forum, among others. Pranidhi is a postgraduate in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science and an undergraduate in Economics from the University of Delhi.
