Poonam Gupta is a Senior Economist in the Development Economics Vice Presidency of the World Bank. Prior to joining the Bank she held the Reserve Bank of India Chair at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, Delhi; worked at the International Monetary Fund; and taught at the Delhi School of Economics. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland, and a M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics. Her research interests include causes and recovery from financial crises, financial sector liberalization, role of service sector in growth, and the Indian economy. Her research on these topics has been published in scholarly journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of International Economics, Journal of International Money and Finance and in collected volumes.
