Through her work in government, a successful business career and ongoing involvement in a range of social initiatives, Nomin Chinbat has become one of the leading role models for a new generation in Mongolia which is helping shape that country’s future.
Nomin was first appointed as Mongolia’s Minister of Culture in January 2021. In this role she had responsibilities for protecting and protecting the country’s nomadic heritage, supporting the economic success of Mongolia’s burgeoning creative industries sector.
Under her leadership, the Ministry of Culture has developed a groundbreaking Cultural and Creative Industries Policy, which sets out the significant contribution this sector can make to the Government’s broader Vision 2050 development strategy. Nomin also oversaw reforms to enhance the legal framework for Mongolia's cultural sector, passed key laws to support museums and creative industries, and introduced incentives for film production in Mongolia. Nomin spearheaded the Mongolian ‘Cultural Creativity Bill,’ from conception to implementation, which gave creative artists in Mongolia intellectual property and royalty rights over the use of their work by third parties.
In March 2023, Minister Nomin was appointed Chairperson of the National Committee for Promoting Mongolia Internationally. Her efforts have focused on global promotions of Mongolian culture, arts, and heritage. She has also aimed to expand tourism, modernising the country’s tourism infrastructure and leading international marketing campaigns. These efforts saw Mongolia welcoming 810,000 tourists in 2024, boosting the economy by $1.6 billion. This marked a 40.3% increase in visitors compared to 2019 and a 183% rise from 2022.
Nomin was elected as a Member of the State Great Khural (Parliament) following Mongolia's General Election in June 2024, and the following month was appointed Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth. In this new role, Nomin is responsible for ensuring every young Mongolian has opportunities and the support needed to reach their full potential, including embracing Mongolia’s rapid technological development.
Nomin has also built strong partnerships with internationally renowned cultural establishments to promote the ‘Go Mongolia’ national identity, including Royal Academy of Arts, Cambridge University and more recently the Premier League football team Fulham FC.
She is engaged in philanthropy through initiatives such as Byatshan Ger, which helps underprivileged children and hearing-impaired citizens. In recognition of her achievements, Nomin won the Gold Award in the Corporate & Public Sector category at the 2024 Women Changing the World Awards, was included in the “30 under 30” listing compiled by Forbes Mongolia and listed in the Hollywood Reporter’s 2013 “Top 25 Women in Television.” She is a graduate of Harvard Business School.
