Nathalie Giroud

Professor of Computational Neuroscience of Speech & Hearing, University of Zurich

I am heading the Computational Neuroscience of Speech & Hearing research group at the University of Zurich at the Department of Computational Linguistics. In my research group, we are conducting innovative and leading research in the fields of healthy and pathological aging with a focus on hearing loss and speech perception difficulties in older adults. We are working towards understanding the impact of hearing loss on the brain and its relationship with cognitive decline in healthy individuals and in older adults with neuropathology such as Alzheimer’s disease.

I received my PhD in neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience (summa cum laude) from the University of Zurich in 2016 focusing on the cognitive neuroscience of healthy aging. As part of Team 17 of the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging, I previously held a postdoctoral research position in the laboratory for cognition, aging and psychophysiology at Concordia University in Montréal, supported by a mobility grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). I have also worked on the “Montréal Bilingual Brain Initiative” project, together with an interdisciplinary team from McGill University.
