Why we must leverage green and blue infrastructure to make cities more resilient to climate change
From underwater streets to blistering pavements, cities are living the future of climate change.
My name is Hassan, and I am a Fulbright Scholar with a Master's in Community Climate Adaptation from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where I supported the City of Worcester, MA, in developing its winter climate adaptation plan. I currently serve as the Growth & Fundraising Strategist at Taleemabad, an edtech social enterprise in Pakistan that has reached over 10 million users. My goal is to help scale its impact to 100 million learners globally.
Since 2018, I’ve worked as a serial social entrepreneur addressing climate change and education. I co-founded GreenSquad, an urban sustainability startup focused on nature-based solutions in South Asia. I’m now building Darakht (Urdu for "tree") a platform translating climate adaptation knowledge into tangible, community-driven action.
I am a Global Shaper with the Rawalpindi Hub, part of the World Economic Forum's Youth & Social Innovation Initiative, a Climate Reality Leader, a UGRAD Scholar, a Pakistan US Alumni Network Member, and a Teach For Pakistan Alumni.
I serve on Teach For All’s Climate Education & Leadership Fund grant review committee. I’ve been recognized as a Queen’s Commonwealth Leader and received the Young Emerging Leader Award from the U.S. Mission in Pakistan.
I’ve spoken on climate education at the UN in New York, shared my “Our Green Blue Rawalpindi” project at the World Economic Forum in Geneva, and represented Pakistan as the sole Global Shaper at the Summer Davos in Tianjin.
Professionally, my work lies at the intersection of climate action, education, and innovation. Projects I’ve led include:
Plastic Free Pakistan: tackling single-use plastic waste
Our Green Masjids: embedding sustainability in religious education
Our Green Blue Rawalpindi: a four-pronged nature-based climate adaptation intervention
Journalism for Climate Resilience: capacity-building for local journalists on climate change reporting
Project Regrowth: urban forestation and circular economy, enabling local climate leaders to share expertise together to "Regrow" Pakistan
I also write for the World Economic Forum’s Climate and Nature Centre and Pakistan’s leading daily, Dawn.
Personally, I’m an extrovert who loves connecting with people, building communities, and working toward a more sustainable world. Feel free to reach out to me at muhammadhassandajana@gmail.com.
