Hon. Dato Dr Isham Minister of Health of Brunei Darussalam currently since appointed in 01 December 2017.
He has been a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Cardiac Centre Gleneagles JPMC since 2005.
Aside from being the Chairman of Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), he has also been on the board of directors since November 2009. He is also currently the deputy chairman of Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) and a member of board of directors for Gleneagles JPMC. From 2009 to 2017, he was a surveyor for hospital accreditation in Malaysia (Malaysian society for quality in health). Under his leadership, Jerudong Park Medical Centre managed to be the first in Brunei Darussalam to be accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI) in 2014 and also managed to have Jerudong Park Medical Centre labotarory accredited by International Standardization Organization (ISO) in 2017. Additionally, he was the Past President of the Brunei Cardiac Society, Past President of Brunei Medical Association, Honorary Lecturer at the Institute of Health Science Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and instructor for the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course.
In 2011, Dato Dr Isham was awarded the Most Honorable Order of Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei Second Class (DPMB) which carries the title Dato Paduka and in 2018, Dato Dr Isham was awarded the Most Honorable Order of Seri Setia Negara Brunei First Class (P.S.N.B) which carries the title Dato Seri Setia, by His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Dato Dr Isham received his medical degree MBChB from Dundee University, Scotland in 1995 and did his basic surgical training in the UK where he also spent a year as an anatomy lecturer at the University of Glasgow. He became a member of the The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000 and his Higher Specialist Training in Cardiothoracic Surgery was completed in the National Heart Institute, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2005. Two years later in 2007, he did his Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, England. In addition to that, he has also received fellowship recognition from the Royal College of Physician of Edinburgh (2014), the American College of Cardiology (2014), ASEAN Cardiology Congress (2014), European Society of Cardiology (2015) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2015).
