Mike Rogan

Senior Researcher, Rhodes University

Dr Michael Rogan is a Senior Researcher in the Neil Aggett Labour Studies Unit (NALSU) within the ISER. He holds a PhD and a Master’s degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of Washington in Seattle. Prior to completing his PhD, he was a research fellow at the Health Economics and HIV/AIDS Research Division at UKZN. His research interests include: gender, employment, informal work, health, poverty and inequality, and evaluation methodologies.

Dr Rogan’s work over the past five years has focused largely on the application of statistical and econometric approaches to understanding income poverty, unemployment and health in the South African context. He has also applied these approaches to a number of impact evaluation studies. In particular he has worked on randomised and quasi-experimental evaluation projects in relation to land reform, youth financial skills and HIV risk reduction.
