Mariale's work at INDEMAND Research Centre focuses on consumer behaviour and business opportunities towards maintaining, repairing and upgrading a range of products in different sectors.

Her PhD research focused on building a holistic framework supported by user-centred design principles (UCD) to guide companies to leverage sustainable consumption. Her dissertation project at Cranfield University was in partnership with Environmental KTN and looked at on-site treatment technologies for industrial and commercial waste and wastewater.

In addition, she has experience in writing research proposals for the Mexican Government in topics ranging from food and energy consumption, providing clean water to rural communities, and improving the design and market opportunities for Mexican handicrafts.
