Dr Julia Corvalan is an international development expert, academic and researcher, working to support mission-driven grassroots organizations and co-create solutions in highly vulnerable communities. She is the Global Operations Manager at the Poverty Stoplight, a multidimensional poverty measurement tool and coaching methodology implemented in over 63 countries. Additionally, Dr Corvalan is a senior fellow of the Global Innovators Group at the Aspen Institute, specializing in development finance, policy and governance.
Having worked in the field since 2007, Dr Corvalan's expertise in the Global South blends knowledge-based work with practical, hands-on collaboration within multidisciplinary teams in dynamic, highly complex environments. She received her PhD from Strathclyde Business School and is a UK Higher Education Academy Fellow.
She has experience teaching strategy at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at several UK universities, most recently at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. She is currently Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration at the International Development University in Paraguay.
Julia has presented her work at international events such as the Aspen Ideas Festival, the Skoll World Forum, SOCAP Global and the Moth Global Development Storytelling Workshop. She has been published in the World Economic Forum, Project Syndicate, IPS and NPR.
Born and currently based in Asuncion, Paraguay, Dr Corvalan was a member of the 2014 inaugural class of Global Emerging Leaders of the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship.
