
Johan A. Mistiaen, a Belgian national, is a Senior Economist-Statistician at the World Bank in Washington DC. He currently leads the Bank’s socio-economic and demographic data team. Based at the Bank’s Nairobi office for a number of years, he has worked closely with operational teams, development partners and government officials in Sub-Saharan Africa to improve statistical capacity, monitoring & evaluation, poverty measurement and household survey programs. His main interests are where different types of data meet economics and statistics to inform development policy. Johan studied Biology, Economics and Statistics at the Universities of York (UK) and Maryland (USA).
