Jay is an accomplished entrepreneur, having founded a series of successful companies, including AirDefense, CipherTrust, CoreHarbor, SecureIT, and Zscaler.
Jay has a history of introducing innovations that address the demand for securely enabling emerging technology trends, such as the Zscaler global security cloud for distributed and mobile enterprises. Jay’s considerable work in the security technology sector has made him a trusted advisor for many enterprise CIOs and CISOs.
As an entrepreneur, Jay leveraged more than 25 years of IT industry expertise, including engineering, sales, marketing, and management experience with leading organizations, including IBM, NCR, and Unisys. In the years before he founded Zscaler in 2007, Jay started and led several companies, including SecureIT, the first pure-play internet security service, which was acquired by VeriSign. He founded and led AirDefense, a wireless security pioneer, before its acquisition by Motorola. He also founded and led CipherTrust, the industry’s first email security gateway, before its merger with Secure Computing. He also founded and led CoreHarbor, a managed eprocurement ASP service, which was acquired by USi/AT&T.
Jay has received many accolades for his accomplishments throughout his career. He has been honored as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® twice — once in 2006 for Southeast USA, and again for the Public Companies in Tech category in Northern California in 2018. Jay has also been named an InformationWeek “Innovator & Influencer,” an SC Magazine “Market Entrepreneur,” an IIT BHU “Distinguished Alumnus,” a TiE Silicon Valley “Entrepreneur of the Year,” and a Goldman Sachs “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs.”
Jay earned an MBA in Marketing, an MS in Computer Engineering, and an MS in Industrial Engineering — all from the University of Cincinnati. He earned his Bachelor of Technology degree in Electronics Engineering from IIT BHU Varanasi. Jay also completed the Executive Management Program from Harvard Business School.
