Schiffner completed a PhD Thesis at the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt, working on the characterization and identification of the navigational process in homing Pigeons. During that time Schiffner also worked part time as Research Fellow and was mainly responsible for the development of new methods for analysis of tracking data and the co-ordination and execution of experiments with pigeons.
