Henri L.F. de Groot (1971) is professor in Regional Economic Dynamics. He is affiliated to the Department of Spatial Economics (VU University Amsterdam) and Ecorys (Rotterdam). He is also a fellow of the Tinbergen Institute and the Netherlands Network of Economics (NAKE). He studied Economics at Tilburg University and graduated in 1994 (cum laude). In 1998, he obtained his Ph.D. from Tilburg University with a dissertation on economic growth, unemployment and the sectoral composition of economies. His main research interests are in the areas of urban economics, regional economic development, agglomeration, the empirics of economic growth and trade, endogenous growth theory, environmental economics, technology adoption, and meta-analysis. He has been involved in various research projects for the EU commission, the Dutch Science Foundation and Dutch ministries. He has also worked on several projects in cooperation with the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, dealing with climate change, European welfare states, the effectiveness of the European Cohesion Policy, the scenario study ‘Four Futures’ and several projects on the impact of globalization. He has published extensively in a wide variety of scientific journals. He is currently program director of the BSc in Economics and Business Economics at VU University Amsterdam, and strongly involved in the MSc in Spatial, Transport and Environmental Economics. He has taught courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level in macroeconomics, microeconomics, regional economics, urban economics, the empirics of economic growth, meta-analysis and empirical research methods.
