Eric Shahzar

Alumni, Global Shapers Community

Dr Eric Shahzar holds a doctorate focused on environmental law and the politics of displacement, with case studies across the Global South. His research addresses the legal architecture surrounding climate-induced displacement and refugee protection, with particular attention to the Global South.

He has conducted first-hand fieldwork in delta regions, engaging directly with communities displaced by seawater intrusion and tracing their movement into informal urban settlements. This grounding in lived experience informs his broader work on human rights law, civil litigation, and the gaps in legal protection facing displaced and stateless populations.

Dr Shahzar advises parliamentary committees on matters relating to climate change, displacement, and human rights, and teaches across land law, dispute resolution, and civil litigation practice. He is a member of the Society of Legal Scholars.

His work has been recognised with an Emerging Scholar Award for contributions to environmental policy, and his research continues to shape doctrinal and policy conversations on the legal recognition of climate-displaced persons.
