Steven Sim is the Member of Parliament for Bukit Mertajam in Malyasia. Before his election, he was a local government councillor of the Seberang Perai Municipal Council, one of the largest councils in Malaysia. Sim also sits on the governing board of the Penang Institute, a leading public policy think tank based in Penang, Malaysia. He was part of the team that produced the 10-year strategic roadmap (2013-2023) for the state of Penang. Sim was formerly the Executive Secretary of the Network of Social Democracy in Asia, a regional dialogue of political parties, scholars and NGOs. His areas of interest include sustainable development, gender and social justice, and participatory politics. He is the convener of #BetterPenang, a city-based project to promote local democracy and urban rejuvenation. Sim is also the author of ?The Audacity to Think: An Invitation to Rethink Politics?.
