Anderson Tanoto is the Managing Director of RGE, a global group operating in the bio-based resources and energy sectors, with more than 80,000 employees serving customers in over 100 markets worldwide. RGE’s operations span Indonesia, China, Brazil, Canada, Spain and Malaysia.
As a member of RGE’s Executive Management Board, Anderson provides long-term strategic direction for the group across all businesses, shaping priorities, guiding growth pathways, and steering value creation over time.
He is also closely involved in the group’s transformation agenda, with a strong focus on sustainability and conservation. This includes the Riau Ecosystem Restoration (RER) initiative in Riau, Indonesia, a first-of-its-kind integrated landscape approach that combines production plantations with forest conservation and restoration. He also spearheaded the construction of the world’s largest fossil-fuel-free pulp mill in Brazil.
Beyond his corporate roles, Anderson serves on the Board of Trustees of Tanoto Foundation, an independent philanthropic organisation focused on catalysing systems change in education, healthcare and leadership development across Indonesia, China, Singapore and Brazil.
He serves as Vice Chairman for Forestry for the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and has been KADIN’s representative to Canada since 2018. He is also a Champion for Nature at the World Economic Forum (WEF) and has previously held roles with the Tropical Forest Alliance (Southeast Asia Regional Committee), the Wharton Executive Board for Asia, and WEF’s Global Agenda Council on Forests.
Anderson holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
