The M.A.S.K. Project: Make and Sew Kindness

The M.A.S.K. (Make and Sew Kindness) Project is an effort to change public behavior around the usage of masks in times of COVID-19 crisis. The lack of hygienic masks for the general public and single-use mask production causes severe public health and environmental effect. Moreover, the consumer is completely oblivious of the effects of excessive consumption and improper handling. If you do not know how to properly handle your masks your whole effort of protecting yourself is wasted.

Under the leadership of Bangalore Hub, hubs across the world aim to build agency among citizens to make their own masks. Our goal is to create a repository of knowledge in multiple languages to educate people on how to responsibly wear, clean, store & dispose DIY cotton masks. Through partnerships with relevant stakeholders globally, we hope to have a larger impact on people through our awareness campaigns, videos and workshops.

Additionally, our initiative serves to mitigate the environmental impact of single-use masks and redirect existing PPE resources to front-line medical staff. This is a collaboration with Abu Dhabi, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Chandigarh, Dubai, Imphal, Jaipur, Kathmandu, Lahore, Manila, Nagpur, Trivandram, Tschwane, Thimpu and Yangon hubs.
