Skills for the 21st Century

According to Shapers in the Medellin Hub, the gap between the skills people learn vs the skills they need is becoming wider. They state that traditional learning falls short at equipping young people with the knowledge they need to thrive in today’s society. As a result, the hub aims to become an active contributor that helps Medellin to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. They envision a solution that enables digital and physical interventions in the current education systems to equip citizens with 21st-century skills.

While they recognize overhauling the entire education system is not realistic, they propose simple and customizable initiatives where virtuous loops can emerge within the current system. Some examples of interventions could be extra-curricular mentorship for students, increasing technology access and education at school, promoting science fairs, develop online modules, etc.
