Mapping PPE Demand in Nepal

The COVID-19 situation in Nepal has now crossed over 1000 cases with the pandemic likely to put a severe strain on the country’s underdeveloped health system. We are now starting to see similar challenges as other countries with increasing COVID-19 cases--mainly Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shortages that results in medical professionals and frontline workers being at a higher risk of transmission.

The main problem is that, to date, we only have anecdotal evidence to rely on. We will not be able to fully capture what is needed to protect frontline and medical workers in the fight against COVID-19, unless we have a strong real-time data-led approach. This data will not only help guide Hub responses but will also assist other agencies and stakeholders that are supporting the issue in Nepal.

Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub has started geocoding PPE demand among medical health professionals in the country. The coming days will see us link with national and international partners to respond to this demand gap.
