Earth Day 2020: Putting the Earth Front and Center

Manila Hub hosted several activities during the 50th Earth Day on April 22, 2020. The Manila Hub’s Climate Crisis committee was tasked with ensuring that humanity's collective home, Mother Earth, was front and center.

With restrictions in place due to the global COVID.19 pandemic, all activities were online and included:

  • Activity #1: A plant-based demonstration hosted by the Global Shapers Manila Hub with Chef Celina David. Sensitive to the need of the community, the cooking show featured an affordable, quick, and nutritious recipe for mung bean tuna patty. Chef Celina’s recipe was designed to feed a family of 4 for under $2 as a nutritious alternative to rice and soy sauce or instant noodles. The show garnered over 700+ views by the end of Earth Day.

  • Activity #2: A webinar on Climate Change, Sustainable Communities, and Environmental Limits during the Global Pandemic featuring Manila Hub Shapers Joshua Lopez of Reboot Philippines, Ann Dumaliang of Masungi Georeserve, and Tieza Santos-Villarosa the Global Shapers Regional Lead for Asia and Pacific for Climate and Environment.

  • Activity #3: A watch party of the documentary “Our Planet”.
