Problem Statement

Brazil is one of the largest food producers and the fifth-largest GHG emitter in the world. Even with 86.7 million hectares producing food, the country struggles to feed its population. Today, 125 million Brazilians face food insecurity, which represents 60% of the total population.

Target Group

Leaders of Community Urban Gardens, Vulnerable Communities, Public Schools.

Proposed Solution

Placing peripheral urban gardens at the center of the solution to the climate crisis and the revolution of local food systems, enhancing the impact of local food production.

Hub Activities

We seek to understand the community garden's relationship with the territory, identifying potential challenges and collaborative constructions, as well as regulations and public policies that enable the development of an urban agriculture project.

Short & Long-Term Goals/Results

Initially, our main focus was to connect with the territory and raise awareness about urban agriculture and the circular economy, which we achieved through immersions and experiences.

- Circular Economy Open Class - 12 people

- Lunch at the productive garden (Horta Cores e Sabores): 15 people

- Design Experience ( in partnership with FGV University) - 8 people

- Peripheral innovation in food (in partnership with FIIS) – 18 people

In total, 53 people were impacted by our activities.

During this period, we identified that the initiative needs an infrastructure intervention, and for that we are analyzing the resources that we need to build a bioconstructed educational center.

For the next steps, we are planning to incorporate a social technology that teaches climate justice using the productive garden as a tool, giving work material from Cores e Sabores to thrive as an educational center.

Available Metrics:

- Number of people (who consume, who visit, who work)

- Increased mental health

- Increased food biodiversity

- Permeable area in urban center

- Bioconstructed educational center
