Wataru MIZUNSHI is Director General of Bioeconomy Unit, Technology Strategy Center (TSC), New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). He also belongs with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation as Technology Advisor in biotechnology.
He received Ms degree from Okayama University, and he joined to company. During working for company, he was assigned invited researcher at Laboratory of Fermentation Microbiology in the University of Tokyo and completed phD course in Okayama University as Industrial Microbiology. His interest is commercialization of the products using bioconversion, enzyme engineering, metabolic engineering. He has been working in industry over 30 years as R & D and Business creation in the fields of biotransformation and healthcare (Vice president at Mitsubishi Rayon America, General Manager of Biotechnology Laboratory in Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation etc.). His work contributed to commercialize bio-acrylamide, several pharmaceutical intermediate, biodegradable chelate etc.
He is serving as member of the International Advisory Council on Global Bioeconomy, member of the Global Future Council on Synthetic Biology in World Economic Forum.
