Tembi Tichaawa is a Professor and the Academic Head of the Tourism Department, at the School of Tourism and Hospitality, University of Johannesburg. He holds a PhD in Geography and Environmental Management from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a Master's Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management (Cum Laude) from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Prof Tichaawa has a combined 21 years' industry and academic experience in the domain of sport tourism, events, mega-events, ecotourism, tourism and impact investing as well as tourism impacts. Prof Tichaawa has 96 peer-reviewed publications to his name including journal articles and book chapters and he has, to date, presented 48 papers at local and international conferences. Tembi has supervised 7 PhDs and 21 master's to completion. He is a member of the Editorial Board of several journals in tourism and hospitality. At present, he is the Editor in Chief of the African Journal of Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure.
