Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis; Doctorate in Environmental Biology and Public Policy, George Mason University. Since 1986 with the Smithsonian’s National Zoo; founded Endocrine Research Laboratory; since 2006, Associate Director for Conservation and Science. Currently, Acting Director, National Zoo; John and Adrienne Mars Director, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. Additionally leads Smithsonian-wide efforts to conserve biodiversity, bringing together the Zoo, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, Smithsonian Tropical Resources Institute, National Museum of Natural History, and Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, and leveraging experience and power of hundreds to fight for nature. Has also served as a Scientific Adviser to the Smithsonian’s Undersecretary for Science and at the National Zoo, as Supervisor, CRC’s Education Office, and as Associate Clinical Veterinarian. Co-Founder, Smithsonian-Mason Semester in Conservation Studies. Affiliate Professor, George Mason. Founder, Sahelo-Saharan Interest Group. Chair, Asian Wild Horse Species Survival Plan. Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, Sahara Conservation Fund. Member, International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources antelope, cervid and conservation breeding specialists groups. Author of more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers in reproductive biology
