Simon Henschel

Head of Operations, Germany, NewMotion

For over a decade Simon has been with renewable energy infrastructure developer Sunlabob Renewable (offices in Hong Kong, Vientiane, Yangon, Singapore). Simon helped to draft the expansion strategy that brought the company’s services to 18 countries globally. Simon’s expertise in operations and electrical infrastructure development supported clients of government, multilateral development agencies, multinational corporations, and nonprofits in Southeast Asia, India, Africa and the Pacific Islands.

Currently, Simon is Head of Operations Germany for European e-mobility leader NewMotion. NewMotion is the market leader in smart charging solutions for electric vehicles in Europe with more than 45,000 charge points under management. The company provides access to a roaming network of more than 140,000 charge points across 28 countries in Europe for more than 170,000 registered drivers’ charge cards. NewMotion has been active in the EV market since 2009, fulfilling a pioneering role in the industry.

Simon is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at INSEAD. He is an alumni member of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Executive Education Program; an alumnus of INSEAD’s Executive Education; and an alumnus Young Leader at the Global Institute for Tomorrow.

Passionate about the intersection of business, policy and social impact, Simon has co-founded social nonprofit enterprise Lao Institute for Renewable Energy; and the Global Shaper Community, Vientiane Hub as a Founding Curator. As a Mentor and Leadership Ambassador with Wedu Global, Simon currently mentors young women in Asia; and advises Swiss student organization oikos International in strategy and leadership.

Simon holds a MSc. in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management from Milano School for Public and Urban Policy, USA; Simon is passionate about operations management, sustainable supply-chains, true cost economics, growth strategies & sustainability management.
