Sergio Sanchez

Senior Policy Director, Global Clean Air, Environmental Defense Fund

Sergio Sánchez is the Senior Policy Director of Global Clean Air for EDF Health, working globally to implement air pollution abatement policies and climate change mitigation strategies. Previously, he served as México’s Vice Minister for Environmental Protection and the Director General for Air Quality Management within México’s Ministry of Environment, as well as Director General for Environmental Projects within the Mexico City Government. He also led the Clean Air Institute as the Executive Director, working all over Latin America for more than a decade.
Sergio is an Environmental Engineer graduate from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico. He is also a graduate of the LEAD Program for International Environment and Development in the Colegio de México, for which he was awarded a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship. Sergio has led his country’s delegations to the UNFCCC and the Montreal Protocol, and has served as the Mexican co-chair for the US-Mexico Air Policy Forum. He also served as the head of the Executive Secretariat of the Clean Air Initiative for Latin America and the Caribbean at the World Bank. In addition, he coordinated the MIT’s Program on Local, Regional and Global Air Pollution in Mexico.
