Rachel Snow, B.A, D.Sc. has more than 25 years experience conducting research on the burden of sexual and reproductive health,gender differentials in health, access to health services, and the gendered vulnerabilities of young people.Trained as a population scientist and reproductive biologist, her early researchwas on contraceptive clinical trials, and the burden of reproductive health in poor countries.Her international research career started in China, proceeded to South Asian countries of India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan, and for the past 15 years has concentrated on countries of Africa – including Nigeria,Burkina Faso, Uganda, Ghana, and South Africa.Snow received her doctorate in PopulationSciences from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1988, where she was subsequently a MacArthur Fellow in Population and Development Studies, and Assistant Professor in Population and International Health. From 1997-2003 she taught at the University of Heidelberg (Germany), and in 2003 she joined the tenured faculty at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and the Michigan Center for Population Studies.Snow was recently the lead author of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) 20-year review of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPDBeyond 2014).
