Ottilia Anna Maunganidze is the Head of Special Projects in the Office of the Executive Director at the Institute for Security Studies. An international law and human rights advocate, she promotes human security in Africa by advancing peace and justice. Ottilia explores new areas of work for the ISS and informs institutional strategy. Her areas of interest include accountability, emerging security threats, international criminal justice, international human rights law, and migration trends and policy. Ottilia previously conducted research on the legal and socio-political situations in countries in the SADC region focusing primarily on the Indian Ocean Islands. Before joining the ISS in 2009, she worked as a junior legal advisor in Grahamstown (now Makhanda) and as a human rights education coordinator for the Eastern Cape chapter of Amnesty International.
Ottilia has a Master of Laws (LLM) in Fundamental Rights Litigation & International Human Rights Law, a PGC, a PDIS; and an LLB with Sociology.
Among other board and committee positions, she serves on the 2023-2024 WEF Global Future Council on the Future of Good Governance.
