Dr. REN Minghui is a professor at the Department of Global Health, School of Public Health, Peking University. He is also the Director of Institute for Global Health, and the Director of China Center for Health Development Studies, PKU. He served as the Assistant Director-General at the WHO headquarters from January 2016 to November 2022, overseeing various critical programs, including HIV, viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, malaria, neglected tropical diseases, non-communicable diseases and mental health. In addition to his WHO role, he represented the organization on the boards of several global health entities, including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, UNAIDS, and Unitaid.
Before joining WHO, Dr. Ren spent nearly three decades working in public health and global health in China, notably as the Director-General for International Cooperation in China's National Health and Family Planning Commission. He was actively involved in health policy, health reform, international health cooperation, and global health governance. Throughout his career, he held positions on the WHO Executive Board, and other governing bodies of various global health organizations.
Dr. Ren is a medical doctor with a Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health and a Ph.D. in Social Medicine and Health from Peking University.
