Marine Biologist, National University of Singapore

PhD. Known to many as the “giant clam girl”. Currently studying the endangered giant clams of the Indo-Pacific oceans and promoting ways to protect these rare marine species from going extinct. Beginning work ten years ago in Singapore, spearheaded the giant clam breeding and restocking programme in 2011; now oversees the transplantation of baby clams in Singapore's reefs and monitors their growth and survivorship. Specialises in marine ecology, marine conservation, and science communications. TED Fellow (2017). Recipient of honours and awards for research efforts, such as: World Future Foundation Ph.D. Prize in Environment and Sustainability (2014); L'Oreal for Women in Science National Fellowship (2015); Singapore's Women Weekly Great Women of our Time honouree (2015); Forbes Asia 30 Under 30 (2016); Young Scientist, World Economic Forum (2016); AsianScientist 100 (2017). Interests: diving, nature photography and blogging.
