Degrees, Department of Prehistory, University of Istanbul. 1999-2010, Chair, Department of Prehistory, University of Istanbul. Main focus of interest is the emergence and expansion of early village farming economies, working both in the formation zone of Neolithic cultures as well as in its contact zone with South-Eastern Europe. Since 1964, has participated in over 25 excavations and surface surveys all around Turkey, leading major expeditions from 1975 to the present. Large-scale surface survey projects include the reservoir areas of the Karakaya and Atatürk Dams along the Euphrates, Eastern Thrace, Gallipoli peninsula and Southern Marmara Region. Has led important excavations such as in Çayönü and Mezraa Teleilat in South-Eastern Turkey and at Yarimburgaz Cave, Toptepe and Hoca Çesme in Eastern Thrace. Has published 23 books and 295 academic papers on archaeology and heritage.
