Kirani James

Olympic Athlete, Independent Professional Athlete

Kirani Zeno James is one of the most accomplished 400m sprinters in history and Grenada’s first Olympic gold medalist. Born in the village of Gouyave, he rose to prominence as a prodigy, becoming the youngest 400m World Champion at age 18 in 2011. He made history again by winning Olympic Gold in London 2012, followed by Silver in Rio 2016 and Bronze in Tokyo 2020—becoming the first athlete to earn three individual Olympic 400m medals. His achievements span World Championships and Commonwealth Games titles. Beyond athletics, Kirani is known for his humility, resilience, and service, holding a business degree from the University of Alabama and serving on the WINDREF Board to advance sport and health initiatives.
