Julio Frenk

President, University of Miami

JULIO FRENK is a scholar and leader in higher education and global health. He became President of the University of Miami in 2015 and holds three academic appointments as Professor of Public Health Sciences, Health Sector Management and Policy, and Sociology. He previously served as Dean of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. As Minister of Health of Mexico, he reformed the nation’s health system and expanded access to health care for previously uninsured Mexicans. He also led the National Institute of Public Health of Mexico and has held top positions at the World Health Organization and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, among others. Author, articles in academic journals, books and book chapters; two books for youngsters explaining functions of human body. Recipient of Clinton Global Citizen Award, (2008).
