BA in Geography and Government, Dartmouth College; Master's in Public Administration, Harvard University. 1985, Member of the Board of Trustees and Founding Director, Ancon Foundation, an environmental association in Panama and one of the most important in Latin America. 1990, Regional Director, Latin America, World Conservation Union (IUCN). 1999-2009, Mayor of the City of Panama. 2002, elected Second Vice-Chair, Democratic Revolutionary Party. First Environmental Ambassador of the country, appointed by the President to support the State and public and private institutions in the formulation and implementation of international and national environmental policies. Fellow, Conservation Center for Compatible Economic Development, The Nature Conservancy and the MacArthur Foundation. Author of Parques Nacionales de Panamá, a book on national parks in Panama. Named one of 100 most promising young leaders of the planet for the next millennium, Time magazine (1994); named a Latin American Leader for the Next Millennium, Time magazine and CNN (1999).
