30 years as faculty member, MIT; currently, Abdul Latif Jameel Professor of Water and Food and Director, Abdul Latif Jameel World Water and Food Security Lab, MIT. Research on water purification includes thermal and membrane desalination, solar driven desalination, use of brackish water for irrigation, and energy-water nexus issues. Has directly supervised more than 85 graduate theses and postdocs, and is author of 200 peer-reviewed papers and 20 US patents.
