Jim Chalmers

Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition, Parliament of Australia

Jim Chalmers MP was elected to the Australian Parliament as the Member for Rankin in September 2013. After his election, he was immediately promoted to Shadow Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Investment. He is the deputy chair of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Tax and Revenue and is a member of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics.

Prior to his election, Jim was the Executive Director of the Chifley Research Centre and, before that, Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer. He has a PhD in political science and international relations and a first class honors degree in public policy, and has taught politics at three universities. He is a member of the Griffith University Logan Campus Development Advisory Group and the Board of Advisers at the Center for Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Studies at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
Jim's book Glory Daze was published in July 2013. His main policy interests are the economy, education and foreign affairs.
