Isabell Welpe

Prof. Dr. Isabell M. Welpe is a professor and head of the Strategy and Organization research group at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Isabell M. Welpe studied management at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Germany and visited at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, USA. In addition, she completed an MSc at the London School of Economics. She has been a visiting professor at the Keck Graduate Institute, Claremont, USA, a postdoctoral fellow at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and a post-doc at the Max Planck Institute for Economics. She is a research fellow at the Centre for Blockchain Technologies at the University College London. In her current projects, Prof. Dr. Isabell M. Welpe focuses on the digital transformation of companies, the impact of digital technologies (e.g. AI) on the economy and organizations and the future of leadership and work/organizational design. She is a co-founder of the Global Deep-Tech Observatory (https://deeptech-observatory.com). She has published studies on, e.g. "Disrupting Industries with Blockchain" "Digital Business Models", „Social Media as Information Markets“. She has repeatedly spoken at the Digital Life Design (DLD) conference and has been listed among the Top 40 of the „digital elite“ by the magazine Capital and one of the “leading 40 thinkers in HR”. Her current interests are in the potential of digital technologies, such as AI and Web3 for novel value chains, business models and organizational forms. Her research is covered in the media, such as the Harvard Business Manager, MIT Sloan Management Review. Her work has received several national and international awards, including Best Paper Awards from the Academy of Management (AOM), the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), and the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB). Professor Welpe is a board member of the Center for Digital Technology & Management (CDTM) and several advisory boards.
