Henry Gonzalez is the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) overseeing over USD 14 billion commitments of GCF resources and close to USD 53 billion in co-financing across 243 projects in 140 countries. In his earlier tenure at the Fund, he was the Director of its Private Sector Facility. He is also an Associate Fellow at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School contributing to Sustainable Investing Programs.
He has over 25 years of professional experience across sustainable and impact investing, emerging markets, and political and economic development. Prior to joining GCF, he was a Lead Financial Sector Specialist for CGAP, the World Bank-housed financial inclusion think tank. He also served as member of Senior Management and Global Head of Research & Advisory at responsAbility Investments AG (now part of the M&G group), where he led thought leadership, technical assistance, and ESG/impact integration strategies across the sectors of finance, climate, and agriculture. He spent time at Morgan Stanley, serving as a Vice President for Emerging Markets Debt Investing and held other positions at the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Government of Costa Rica.
Henry holds an MBA from Oxford University (Skoll Scholar), an MPA from Harvard University (Fulbright Scholar) and a BA in Political Science from the University of Costa Rica.
