Dr. Fozia Parveen is an environmental scientist from Gilgit-Baltistan who blends scientific and indigenous knowledge to advance sustainable development. Currently affiliated with the Aga Khan University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) and Institute for Educational Development (IED), she focuses on enhancing sustainability education and training educators to integrate environmental education into early childhood and K-12 curricula.
Dr. Fozia has authored a module on climate change and sustainability and has trained over 100 youth educators. Together with her students and team, she has developed approximately 10 free and open resources for parents, teachers, and students. Additionally, she teaches higher education courses such as Sustainable Development, Environmental Education, and Introduction to Climate Change, with a strong emphasis on enabling action and behavior change in climate change and sustainability education.
In 2024 alone, Dr. Fozia mentored over 30 youth-led action projects. She also secured a U.S. Mission project to train 50 teachers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on climate change. Titled "climate action fellowship", this initiative aimed to create local action projects that influence policy and governance.
Her research interests include water and wastewater treatment, microplastic pollution, environmental education, and promoting behavior change toward sustainability. Dr. Fozia holds a DPhil in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, an MS in Environmental Science from NUST, and a BS from Fatima Jinnah Women University.
