Degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics, MIT; PhD, Neurosciences, Stanford. Currently, Assoc. Professor of Biological Engineering and Brain and Cognitive Science, Media Lab and McGovern Institute, MIT; leads Synthetic Neurobiology Group, which develops tools for controlling and observing dynamic circuits of brain, and uses neurotechnologies to understand how cognition and emotion arise from brain network operation, and to enable systematic repair of intractable brain disorders. Has contributed to over 300 peer-reviewed papers, patents, and articles. TED speaker, 2011. Recipient of awards, including: Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences (2016), Carnegie Prize in Mind and Brain Sciences (2015), Schuetze Award in Neuroscience (2014), Jacob Heskel Gabbay Award (2013), Lundbeck Brain Prize (2013), Perl/UNC Neuroscience Prize (2011), and many others.
