1981, medical degree; 1985, MSc in Occupational Medicine; 1995, Doctor of Medicine. Former: Occupational Health Physician, specializing in renal effects of heavy metals. Currently, Founding Dean and Professor, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore; Director, Centre for Molecular Epidemiology. Current research focuses on the study of how genetic and lifestyle factors interact to cause chronic diseases (cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes mellitus) and the translation of these findings to preventive measures at the population level.
