C. Nicholas Brooke

Chairman, Hong Kong Harbourfront Commission

Nicholas Brooke is a Chartered Surveyor by profession and a recognized authority on land administration and planning matters and has provided advice in these areas to several Asian governments, as well as the US State Department.

Nicholas is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Harbourfront Commission, the role of which is to co-ordinate the planning, design, implementation and management of the various initiatives around Victoria Harbour and to create a world class waterfront to frame Hong Kong’s world class harbour. The Harbourfront Commission is seen as the ongoing champion of Hong Kong’s most important natural asset as well as the initiator and instigator of a whole series of public private partnerships designed to bring life, connectivity and vibrancy to the waterfront. There are plans in hand approved by the Chief Executive to create a Harbourfront Authority to take responsibility for the delivery of Hong Kong’s new waterfront and Nicholas Brooke is heading that initiative.

Nicholas is also involved in sustainability initiatives in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta and until he stepped down as Chairman in July 2014 led the development of the latest Phase of Hong Kong Science Park as a showcase for “clean & green” technologies. He is a member of the Hong Kong Government’s Strategic Development Commission and of the Steering Committee on the Promotion of Electric Vehicles and of the Task Force on External Lighting in Hong Kong.

Nicholas is a past President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and a former member of the Hong Kong Housing Authority and the Hong Kong Town Planning Board. He is also a Trustee of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) which is responsible for the setting and policing of valuation practices and standards worldwide.

Nicholas also sits in a Non-Executive capacity on the Boards of VinaLand Limited, the first Vietnam property fund listed on the AIM Board of the London Stock Exchange and of Top Spring International Holdings Limited, one of the leading developers of urban communities in Mainland China.

Nicholas was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) on 30 June 2012 in recognition of his distinguished public and community service, particularly his significant contribution in promoting innovation and technology development in Hong Kong.
