Bashir Dabbousi

Director, Technology Strategy and Planning Department, Aramco

Bashir Dabbousi is the Director of Technology Strategy & Planning at Saudi Aramco. He was the Interim Vice President of Research at the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC), an independent energy economics and policy think tank in Riyadh, from 2008-2012. He has occupied several administrative and technical positions in Saudi Aramco including Assistant to the Chief Technology Officer; Senior Consultant, Strategic Transformation Office; and Coordinator of the R&D Division in the Research & Development Center where he spent most of his professional career. Bashir is co-recipient of 18 U.S. patents and 1 U.S. patent application (10 patents are licensed to two U.S. and one leading South Korean electronics company). He has coauthored 25 publications in peer reviewed technical journals including Nature and the Journal of the American Chemical Society (he is first author of a publication in the Journal of Physical Chemistry that has been cited over 3,400 times) in the research areas of nanostructured highly luminescent materials, liquid-based petroleum fuels, crude and products desulfurization and hydrogen production. Bashir is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Award honoring inventors and the gifted, and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Saudi Arabia Advanced Research Alliance. Bashir was an academic visitor in the department of chemical engineering at Imperial College London. He received a B.S. degree in Chemistry summa cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He completed the Saudi Aramco Leadership Challenge and the Advanced Management and Leadership Program at the Oxford University Sa?d Business School.
